My family and I flew with Qantas to Honolulu, Hawaii. The flight was on time, inflight service was great and luggage arrived safely.
We stayed at Outrigger Waikiki Shores Condominiums, which is a beachfront apartment block at Waikiki. The view from the room is amazing and many drinks were enjoyed on our private balcony. I would recommend requesting a high floor for best view and less street noise. The 1 bedroom condominium can sleep up to 5 people and is very spacious. It has full kitchen facilities, lounge area, dining table, laundry facilities (in room). There is a bathroom plus a separate powder room which was great when we were all trying to get ready to go out (with two teenagers)! There is no pool but you are allowed to use the pool and facilities at the sister hotel next door- the Outrigger Reef Hotel.
As well as the fabulous beachfront location the Outrigger Waikiki Shores is also close to great shopping, restaurants and bars. The Shore Birds bar next door at the Outrigger Reef Hotel is a great place to enjoy a frozen Mojito or two in the afternoon and people watch, or pop back later in the night for hilarious karaoke! There are so many fabulous restaurants it is hard to decide where to eat but be sure to book ahead for dinner at any restaurant as they all get very busy and there are often wait times of an hour!
We did lots of sightseeing but our favourite was a snorkel trip to Hanauma Bay National Park. The water is a stunning clear blue and the marine life is amazing. You need to allow at least a half day for this. There are many local companies that do this tour with pick up and drop off to your hotel for $15pp and a small hire fee for snorkel gear so it is all very easy. We ended up buying our own snorkel gear at the local ABC shops so we could see the giant turtles that swim straight out the front of condo!
As a shopper Hawaii didn’t disappoint and we picked up many bargains at the Ala Moana Shopping Centre. It was as good as the outlets and could have easily spent a full day there!
My boys hired surfboards, Malibu’s or stand up paddle boards each day and we were lucky enough that Waikiki had a surf break during our visit so they could surf straight out from our apartment.
Hawaii is a fabulous holiday with teens, plenty to do and see to keep everyone happy!
