Kona and Oahu, Hawaii

I spent 3 nights on Kona at the Royal Kona Resort. We had a gorgeous Oceanfront room with uninterrupted views. This is a really good value 3.5 star hotel. The pool was great with reasonably prices cocktails and good bar food. There is also easy access to lots of different restaurants on the street if you wish to eat out. We did a tour to go swimming with the Manta Rays – a fabulous experience and would highly recommend it, Manta Rays get so close to you that you can touch them and they are HUGE!

We then moved to the Waikoloa Beach Marriott which is over the other side at Waikoloa Beach. This is a beautiful resort with an awesome buffet breakfast. The pools at this resort are beautiful and there is a shopping centre not far from the resort for food/shopping. Popular with couples/honeymooners but would also be good for families as there is a watersports set up out the front of the resort on the beach.

Our next stay was at The Modern Hotel in Waikiki. This property is down near the Marina and just a walk over the bridge to the Ala Moana Shopping Centre. I really loved this hotel – especially the bar area which served yummy mojitos! This is the hotel where the cool people hang – probably not great for families.

I did a surfing lesson in Waikiki – lots of fun and everyone stands up! Went to the Arizona Memorial which was very interesting – a must see in Hawaii I think.

We flew with Hawaiian Airlines who were great - they offer a generous 32kgs X 2 luggage limit per person which includes the inter island flights – food good – modern aircraft.
